Peracetic Acid (PAA)
Peracetic acid is a strong disinfectant with a wide spectrum of antimicrobial activity. Due to its bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal, and sporicidal effectiveness, the use of peracetic acid as a disinfectant for wastewater effluents has been increasing in popularity. Peracetic acid in wastewater disinfection has proven to be an easy to implement, low cost, highly effective disinfectant. Additional advantages include its short contact time, only slight pH dependency, and no need for quenching (as with dechlorination).
